Congratulations to this year’s People’s Choice Award Winner: Javier Sicilia!
Thank you for your wonderful support of this participatory event. We invited our friends, supporters, and allies to help select this year’s People’s Choice Nominee, and the outpouring of excitement was inspiring. Tens of thousands visited us online to nominate and vote for their human rights heroes, and we appreciate the time and effort of every individual who participated.

We will honor this year’s People’s Choice Honoree with a $1,000 grant in support of their work.
Selection Criteria: the Global Exchange selection committee, made up of Global Exchange staff, board members, and selected Global Exchange allies, has reviewed all of the votes. Selection of the final honoree was based on the following core criteria:
- The number of votes the candidate received
- Evidence of contribution to human rights or justice
- Demonstration that the People’s Choice Award honor will strengthen and advance the nominee’s efforts and work
*Nominees will be disqualified if the selection committee believes that the nomination constitutes a conflict of interest–e.g. if the nominee is a Global Exchange staff or board member.
